October 30, 2015: I spent my last afternoon in Barcelona visiting the Museum of Catalan Art Nouveau, where I discovered still more exponents of Modernisme. I was especially taken by furniture by Joan Busquets i Jane, but there were also paintings, stained glass and even a cloisonné table, by a number of different artists.
The next morning, Halloween, I got up at an unpleasantly early hour and trekked through the Eixample to Placa de Catalunya to catch the airport bus. I flew economy class on American (or possibly rebranded US Airways) via Philadelphia and the flight was chiefly notable for the fact that all blinds remained down for the duration of the daytime flight so people could spend their time watching their screens. And for an actually edible meal – I thought the flight attendant might cry when I complimented her on the improvement in the food!
One reason it has taken me so long to catch the blog up to this point is that I developed seriously low energy after I got home. I even visited an endocrinologist, which proved a complete waste of time and money. She decided my thyroid function was fine, but had no other suggestions. Fortunately, doubling my Vitamin B12 intake and adding a multi-vitamin have improved matters to the point I am now busy working on my next trip. In the meanwhile, I still have the two and a half weeks I spent in England between Oslo and Strasbourg to write up.
Looks amazing
It was a really good museum. Hasn’t been open long and there was hardly anyone else there.
Some really good art!
I hadn’t originally planned to visit Barcelona on this trip, but I’m really glad I did.
The panels on the piano are so pretty like a Japanese print. I know it sounds silly but have you tried iron pills? I’m sometimes rundown being vegetarian and the pills from the brand Sunwell have literally changed my life for the better. Somehow cheaper brands don’t work for me. I’m really looking forward to your post on Oslo, a place i’ve wanted to visit but never quite sure if it would be worth the trip, excited to read your thoughts on that city.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m taking a quarter dose of Thorne Research Meta-fem, plus 1,000 mcg of Methylcobalamine, and that seems to be working.
The Oslo posts are up already, along with the rest of the Scandinavia leg – just put it in the search box, or go back to the posts from September (dated August).
Hi Kathy, I am particularly fond of the Museum of Catalan Art Nouveau, and your photos are beautiful. I love the chest with the coiled salamander (?). Sorry to hear about your bout with low energy. How frustrating. Of course, you’re so active you could easily outlast several teenagers! 🙂
BTW, you may have noticed that things have been quiet at Gallivance. Our travels have been (temporarily) suspended because I blew out my knee and recently had to have total knee replacement surgery. Not fun, but I’m working hard on recovery. We haven’t forgotten about our friends and want things to get back to normal. James and I are looking forward to catching up with you and finding out what you’ve been up to. In the meantime, thanks for continuing to follow along.
All the best, Terri
It is a nice museum, isn’t it? And so far, so quiet compared to the Gaudi sites!
So sorry about your knee. A friend of mine had a knee replacement in December. so I know that the recovery can be really tough. .I had noticed things were quiet over at Gallivance, but I thought it might be because of your move.
I still have to blog the two and a half weeks in England from last year, but I’m behind on my trip planning! I leave in just over two months…
Good luck with the knee!
